The Association is
redesigning its magazine and is seeking a graphic design firm or an individual
with expertise in this area to assist with this project. The magazine is
published 6 times a year and is mailed to approximately 7,000 subscribers, the
majority of them Association members. The magazine focuses on issues and trends
facing our members, as well as nuts-and-bolts information members need to know
to operate effectively. Topics covered include
explanations of laws members must comply with, court decisions affecting members,
personnel management, risk management, and governance.
This project will
involve the design overhaul of the printed magazine, as well as the development
of graphics for an online magazine presence on the Association’s website. The
Association conducted a communications audit in 2011 and a magazine reader survey
in 2012, and we are using this feedback to overhaul both the design and the
content of the magazine; we are looking to completely re-create this
publication to be more relevant and appealing to our members and fit better
with our brand. The redesigned magazine will be 8.5” x 11,” 36 pages (including
covers), and 4-color process throughout.
Ideally, the process for
redesigning the magazine will include an initial meeting with the selected
vendor to discuss ideas, followed by some concepts/rough ideas for review. From
there, 2-3 prototypes would be created, followed by 3-4 rounds of changes and
refinements to finalize the design. Graphics would then need to be developed
for an online presence for the magazine. Guidance on paper stock selection is
needed, as well as detailed documentation of the final design so that a
production artist can lay out future issues. Some in-person meetings will be
