POSITION: Assistant Editor
REPORTS TO: Editor in Chief
SUPERVISES: N/A

BASIC FUNCTION: This position tracks, edits and proofreads articles and copywrites for the ACC Docket magazine. This position also manages one of the magazine's quarterly supplementsóCanadian Briefings.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES: Major duties include, but are not limited to:

Performs copy editor duties for all articles, including helping feature article authors develop detailed outlines into working features to ensure article purpose is clear, deadlines are met, and substantive editing and fact checking the articles is completed before layout. Helps create interesting headlines and subheads for articles.

Proofreads the layout and blueline during the production stage.

Solicits articles for Canadian Briefings; works with authors to develop drafts.

Balances multiple priorities, works independently and as part of a team, keep others informed through clear written and oral communication, and maintains high level of productivity.

Participates in editorial brainstorming meetings, helping to plan the future editorial content of the magazine. Provides a communication link among editorial, design, and production, including tracking supplied photos and artwork. Some travel may be required.

Education Requirements

BA/BS degree in English, journalism or related field; min 3 years of increasing responsible editorial experience; must be able to show samples of work; excellent copyediting and proofreading skills. Experience in the legal profession or work on previous law publications is a plus. Portfolio will be reviewed during the interview.
