As more sites like Facebook, Twitter, and Buzzfeed blend ads directly into a user's content stream, the future of online advertising is quickly shifting. It's a brave new world defined by content, not dimensions; mad math, not mad men. Science and data, not merely creative endeavors.

I was working on an article for Signature recently, and I asked the featured association's editor if she would send me one of her favorite magazine covers to pass along to our designer for the layout. In a subsequent email, she sent me three covers with a note that she "didn't really like any of them," but her art director felt these were the best.

My iPad ran out of space when adding some magazines. It got me thinking: If the Internet tablet and the digital magazine are a marriage made in heaven, then why do they often get along more like the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills? Why do even the most prestigious magazines receive only a 3 out of 5 rating?

My friends, it is official: All paper mills have announced rate increases effective April 1, 2011 of an additional $2 per CWT. If you are wondering what compromises you can make to not only budget for this rate increase, but possibly reduce your paper costs, then this blog is for you.

I recently survived the production of a 52-page conference program with an oversized, map-like insert. I and my assistant worked frantically around the clock the last few days making the editor's copious revisions to drafts six, seven, and eight to release this job to the printer today.
