My iPad ran out of space when adding some magazines. It got me thinking: If the Internet tablet and the digital magazine are a marriage made in heaven, then why do they often get along more like the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills? Why do even the most prestigious magazines receive only a 3 out of 5 rating?

During my most recent vacation this summer, I actually got some R&R. At least I went to the part of the cruise ship specifically designated as the relaxation area so that type As like me would know what it was for. Immediately I saw an opportunity for relaxation and research. While cruising on the high seas aboard the Norwegian Star en route to Bermuda, I couldn't resist the urge to investigate how my fellow passengers were "taking in" content.

As a publishing professional, I am always interested in what is happening in the industry. There has been significant change since I started my career almost 20 years ago. That makes me sound middle-aged, doesn't it? Whether Amazon launches the Kindle or Apple launches the iPad, everyone in and around the industry offers their opinion: Surely, this will be the death of traditional publishing, as we know it. Or will it?

All this talk about iPads has me wondering: Could I really replace my laptop with an iPad?

I always knew that I would be getting an iPad eventually, but after attending Association Media & Publishing's Annual Meeting in June. Well, I'll admit it, I got jealous and had to up the purchase date.
